Welcome to Sasparilla Springs
Written by Dan Bodenstein. Illustrated by Ron Robrahn. Story by Dan Bodenstein & Ron Robrahn.
Sasparilla Springs is an upcoming series of short tales centered around a mysterious little western town in the middle of nowhere. Newcomer Jake Silver, a dingo from the Australian outback, finds himself accepting the position as town’s sheriff. With the assistance of the towns misfit inventor, Doc Milo, Jake finds interesting and innovative ways to help the townsfolk from outlaws and their own personal hardships, while escaping his own demons.
Sasparilla Springs is known for its natural springs that create the popular beverage called Sarsaparilla. But being the old west, most folks just call it Sasparilla. The town was built on a large underground Sarsaparilla root which affected several of the fresh-water springs, creating the beverage. But the spring has dried up, and the ongoing drought threatens the livelihood of all the town’s residents.
The town is frequented by a famous hero of the west, Cowboy Cow, or C.C., as he is known as by the locals. On the other end of the spectrum is the Prairie Posse’. A colony of prairie dogs led by wannabe outlaw named T-Bone. Along with his sidekick, Bronx, they tend to look for any opportunity to better themselves, legal or not.
Peyote is the town apothecary. Peyote believes he was abducted by aliens and shown a vision of the future where people say “peace”, wear flowery garments, headbands and listen to strange music. Most of the town doesn’t believe him, but that doesn’t seem to bother him.
The town has a mysterious past and as hardships increase, so do the tales of the past.
There are many other characters, all which will be in the short stories we will creating.
The stories will be target toward ages 8-12.
